Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta’s status for Sunday night’s NFC Wild Card game against the Los Angeles Rams remains uncertain.
Coach Dan Campbell has been optimistic about LaPorta’s recovery, stating that he is improving and has been participating in walkthroughs.
However, the team does not have a clear picture of his condition until Friday afternoon.
LaPorta suffered a hyperextended knee and a bone bruise in the team’s regular-season finale against the Minnesota Vikings.
Despite initial reports suggesting that he would be out for at least a game or two, Campbell has left the door open for LaPorta to play this week.
LaPorta has been an essential part of the Lions offense this season, ranking second in the team in receptions (86) and receiving yards (889), and tied for the most receiving touchdowns (10).
He is also a key part of their run-blocking and pass-protection plans.
The Lions’ first practice of the week takes place on Wednesday afternoon, and it remains to be seen whether LaPorta will participate.
