The Pittsburgh Steelers are continuing to build their roster for the 2024 season, this time adding five players to reserve/future contracts. This comes on top of the 17 players the team signed earlier in the offseason.
The newest additions include:
-
-
Outside linebacker David Perales: Perales spent last summer with the Steelers before signing to their initial practice squad. He was waived at times throughout the year, but ended up back in Pittsburgh in time for their playoff game against the Buffalo Bills.
-
Linebacker Tyler Murray: Murray spent a short time on the Steelers practice squad in November. He played college football at Memphis, where he recorded 67 tackles, six tackles for a loss, two interceptions, three quarterback hurries and two passes defended in 2022 while starting 13 games.
-
Cornerback Josiah Scott: Scott was eventually signed by the Philadelphia Eagles, where he played four games. He previously spent the 2021 and 2022 seasons with Philadelphia, playing in 29 games, including four starts.
-
Defensive back Kalon Barnes: Barnes signed to the Steelers practice squad just ahead of Week 2 and spent a short time in Pittsburgh this season. He was a seventh-round pick by the Carolina Panthers in the 2022 NFL Draft after finishing his time at Baylor with three interceptions, 14 passes defensed, two and a half tackles for a loss and a forced fumble.
-
-
-
Defensive back Thomas Graham: Graham was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the sixth-round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He played four games for the Bears, recording 13 tackles and four passes defended.
-
These additions provide the Steelers with some depth at key positions as they head into the offseason. Perales and Murray can compete for backup linebacker roles, while Scott, Barnes, and Graham can add competition to the secondary.
The Steelers have been busy this offseason, and these latest signings show that they are committed to building a team that can compete for a Super Bowl in 2024.
