Coaching Carousel: Lakers Delay Redick Decision as Pistons Enter Fray.
With the 2024 NBA Draft approaching, the Los Angeles Lakers have yet to announce their next head coach, despite strong indications pointing to JJ Redick. Speculation arose after the NBA Finals ended that Redick, who was working as a broadcaster, would be named head coach to avoid distractions. However, as days passed without an official announcement, questions grew.
Adding to the intrigue, the Detroit Pistons, having recently fired coach Monty Williams, are reportedly considering Redick for their coaching vacancy. This development comes amidst a new Pistons management led by general manager Trajan Langdon, who shares a Duke connection with Redick from their time with the New Orleans Pelicans.
While the Lakers job appears more prestigious, Detroit’s rebuilding status could appeal to Redick, offering him a chance to shape a young team with lower expectations. Despite Detroit’s interest, Redick’s discussions with the Lakers are reportedly well advanced, making a move to Detroit unlikely but not entirely ruled out.
