SAD NEWS: The entire NASCAR community and fans sent their condolences to Bubba Wallace when they learned the reason why he had a mental breakdown, sobbing like a child next to the race car….
Sunday’s Cook Out 400 at Richmond Raceway was a productive race for Bubba Wallace, albeit an emotional one.
Wallace, who finished 12th overall and led for 80 laps during the race, competed without his spotter, Freddie Kraft, who had to miss the event following the death of his father.
Wallace honored Kraft’s father Tommy by taping his name on the door of his car before the race, among other tributes.
Once I get past the frustration, I know it was a really good day for us,” Wallace said post-race, via NASCAR.com. “Emotional day. I just happened to look right at the door. Freddie’s dad passed away, so racing with a lot there. He was driving the s–t out of it. You know, I told him at the start of the race, like I’m just gonna sit back and let him wheel it, and man, we were awesome.”
Trey Poole took Freddie Kraft’s place as a spotter, and he helped Wallace remain in 15th place in the NASCAR Cup Series provisional playoff picture, 54 points ahead of the cut line.
“Good points day,” Wallace told his team over the radio during his cool down lap.
Wallace will be back on the track this weekend for Sunday’s FireKeepers Casino 400 in Michigan.
