Kuching City just made another significant signing into the Liga Super Malaysia.
Tchetche Kipre, a seasoned striker with seven seasons in the Super League, has made a significant move by joining Kuching City for his eighth season, shifting his focus to East Malaysia. The 36-year-old Ivorian, formerly based in Kuala Lumpur, reunites with Singaporean coach Aidil Sharin, whom he worked with during their time at Kedah. Despite receiving numerous offers, including from clubs outside Malaysia, Kipre chose to honor his commitment to Kuching City, citing Aidil’s influence and the club’s promising plans as deciding factors.
“When I give my word, I stick to it. I promised Kuching City that I would join them, and I did. Offers came in, some required negotiations, but I put a stop to them,” Kipre affirmed, highlighting Aidil’s pivotal role in his decision. “Coach Aidil mentioned that their budget might not be the largest in the league, but I wanted to work with him again. We had a great rapport during my time at Kedah. The club’s ambitions and plans align with mine, and I appreciate it.”
Kuching City aims to improve collectively after finishing thirteenth in the Super League last season, setting their sights on a mid-table finish this year. Kipre’s signing adds strength to their lineup, as he has established himself as one of the league’s most formidable foreign strikers, showcasing his prowess and elevating the performance of his teammates.
Despite his age, Kipre remains motivated to excel in the high-level setting of the Super League, aiming to prove his capabilities and contribute significantly to Kuching City’s success. With Liberian striker Abu Kamara departing for Emirati club Dibba Al-Hisn, Kipre is poised to take on a leading role in the team’s attacking lineup, with an announcement of his potential strike partner expected from the club soon.
